Species information
The Northern Flicker (Colaptes auratus) belongs to the Woodpecker family and is native to most North-America. You can also find it in some parts of Central America and even Cuba and the Cayman Islands. It’s one of the few Woodpecker species that migrate.
Hand made wooden bird
A client requested the Northern Flicker wooden hand made bird through Fiverr. It took some doing, but eventually I managed to get the colors just right. On the left is the original photo from the buyer and on the right is the end product:
Carving this wooden bird was fun and exciting mainly because I had never in my life seen such a fabulous bird. Not even on photos! I’d love to get my hands on a couple of her feathers one day.
If you happen to have some laying around, feel free to send them in! I will make something beautiful out of them 😉
